Activities on the Farm

Farm School Field Trips

Trudy Leading a groups of studentsThis is a school field trip with a twist: in addition to the fun activities that children enjoy on the farm, we have created an educational Farm School where children (and adults) experience and learn about life on the farm. Our activities are best suited for Kindergarten through 5th Grade students, but we welcome any grade level and also non-school groups of all ages, including adult tour groups. We are curriculum based and loads of fun. We follow the NC Standard Curriculum for Public Education and have been chosen by LEARN NC as one of the best field-trip opportunities for their Discover NC program. We consider the Farm School a means to understanding and applying classroom concepts by getting your knees dirty.

What's included:

Bee Farm DemonstrationThe Farm School lasts about an hour and includes "AG Classes" -- hands-on activities centered on and about the barnyard, pond and gardens. Meet and greet the cows, groom our mini-equines, say hello to our neighbors at the pond, create compost, or gather guinea feathers to take home.

Lunch and Playtime: Bring lunch to enjoy in the shaded picnic area. After lunch (approximately thirty minutes), there is unstructured free time directed and supervised by teachers/chaperones. We provide the open pasture and encourage kids to create their own fun -- bring musical instruments and tell stories.
