Employment Opportunity for Summer Camp Leaders - 3 positions
Our 2010 summer day camp at Genesis Farm will be a half-day camp, scheduled to
begin the week of June 14, Monday - Friday, 5 hrs/day, for nine weeks (mid-June
through mid-August). There will be a two-day training period prior to the first week of
camp to get familiar with the farm and organization of the camp.
Camp leaders must have knowledge and experience in ALL aspects of small farm work: every aspect of growing food, caring for and knowing about farm animals, and environmental education, including wildlife and nature.
Successful applicants must know how to teach all the above to children ages 5-11. It is extremely crucial that you be highly responsible and committed: showing up each day prepared to guide your group of young campers. It is also crucial that you be healthy and able to tolerate hot and humid days.
We seek those who are easy and fun to be around, creative and patient and who enjoy and understand kids (their ups and meltdowns). Only bright, dependable mature adults with a sense of whimsy need apply.
Work Experience/Skills
Need to have knowledge and experience in all aspects of small, sustainable farming:
plants, soils, harvesting, farm animals, composting, wildlife (plants and animals), and
expertise in farm crafts and creative projects (art, music, storytelling...) and play. We
prefer those with experience in early childhood education and/or environmental
education in a camp setting.
Based on experience and above qualifications. Please send resume with three professional references. We also require a short narrative telling us about yourself, projects/activities you would offer the camp kids and what personal assets you would bring to the farm and children.

Farm Work Positions
*Barnhouse for Rent*
Reduced rent for farm help/management
For the qualified individual or couple: reduced rent in our lovely, spacious, one-bedroom furnished (or partially furnished) Barnhouse apartment in exchange for a minimum of 15 hrs/week on a small market farm in Orange County about five miles from Carrboro. This is a great opportunity to be responsible for managing a small farm. Original projects will be encouraged.
We require two years' small farm experience and one year commitment.
Duties include (all required) but not limited to the following:
- * Ability to perform all manner of farm tasks and projects.
- * Take initiative in beginning and completing tasks and projects.
- * Care for and appreciate domestic animals.
- * Manage gardens (from planting to selling).
- * Know-how and construction skills to repair buildings, fences, farm machinery.
- * Be responsible for general farm management.
- *Share the philosophy of sustainable and healthy agriculture, a love for the outdoors and respectfor all life.
Must be responsible, highly motivated, dependable, clean and quiet.
Rent: $500/month + deposit + utilities.
